Global Crossing, a global IP solutions provider, has announced its support for
Entanet's recently launched 'up to' 24Mbps (ADSL2+) Wholesale Broadband Connect (WBC) product, which is distributed to consumers through several UK vISPs (
List).
The group will provide core network connectivity from Entanet's central network nodes to British Telecom's (BT) WBC aggregation points in London and around the U.K, which could bring a number of benefits to customers:
"In what is a strategically important move for the company, we have made a significant investment in our own network, allowing us to take WBC," said Entanet's chief technical officer, Steve Lalonde. "As part of our 21CN infrastructure development, a key goal was to improve delivery, enabling channel customers to offer more stable and potentially faster ADSL2+ broadband, as well as broader Quality of Service options for those end-users looking to prioritise traffic."
Several other unbundled (
LLU) ISPs in the UK are already offering faster broadband services based off ADSL2+ technology (e.g.
O2,
Sky Broadband etc.), though Entanet is presently in the lead when it comes to BT based ADSL2+ products.
In addition, BT recently chose to delay the rollout of its WBC exchange upgrades (
here), which could be seen as a mixed blessing for Entanet. On the one hand rivals are likely to delay their launch; while on the other Entanet could suffer as a result of the initially limited coverage.
