Mobile operator Three (3) has lodged a new complaint with the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), criticising how Vodafone has advertised the speed of its 'Mobile Broadband' (HSPA) service as up to 7.2Mbps. By comparison Three (3) only promotes speeds of up to 2.8Mbps, complaining that Vodafone is being unrealistic.
It's well known that most related connections can barely achieve much over the 2Mbps mark, and only under the most ideal circumstances. However, both operators use the accepted "up to" terminology when listing their speeds, which the ASA rarely disputes.
The outcome of the complaint will not be known for another week or two, although we'd be surprised if it was upheld. Having said that, mobile networks are of a radically different construction to their land-line counterparts.
