Phorm's Chief Executive, Kent Ertugrul, has predicted that
BT's implementation (Webwise) of its controversial targeted advertising system will be online before the end of this year.
Phorm's service works with ISPs to monitor what websites you visit for use in targeted advertising campaigns, though this has raised more than a few fears about invasions of privacy:
"
We're not able to comment on specific timings but our work with BT is the most advanced," Ertugrul said. "
It'll most definitely be online by the end of the year," he added.
The company also has agreements, albeit of a somewhat vague nature, with two of the UK's other major ISPs - Carphone Warehouse (
TalkTalk) and
Virgin Media. Analysts claim that the system could add about £85m to
BT's revenue and £65m for Carphone Warehouse.
