Vodafone has today launched a new pay-as-you-go (payg)
Mobile Broadband service -
TopUp and Go, which costs £39, includes a USB Modem (Dongle), 1GB of data usage and covers 80% of the UK. The modem also doubles as a 4GB USB memory stick and extra data can be purchased in blocks of 1GB for £15 a pop.
It's worth pointing out that the £15 top-up fee would get you an extra 3GB with the likes of
Three (3) and
O2, yet unlike them
Vodafone's lesser 1GB will not expire after 30 days and can be used up as and when required. This may make it more economical for extremely casual surfers.
Naturally the service claims to offer download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps, although
Vodafone notes that real-world performance is more likely to be between 1 and 2Mbps. Similarly the operators rivals have been offering such services for awhile now but better late than never.
