Three (3) Sweeps Mobile Broadband Awards

Posted: 14th Oct, 2008 By: MarkJ
Mobile operator Three (3) has won heavy praise in Broadband Expert's 2008 Mobile Broadband Awards, winning four out of eight award categories from 'Best Value' to 'Best Overall Provider'. The comparison site used sample data from over 4,000 consumers taken between January and September 2008 to find the winners, which we've reformatted into a readable form below:

BEST VALUE - Three (3)
3 was judged to have the best value packages having lead the way in reducing costs for mobile broadband. Their low pricing has forced rivals to lower their own package costs and in turn made mobile broadband affordable for the masses. Their £10 1Gb deal is currently the cheapest package on the market.

FASTEST ACTUAL SPEED - Vodafone
Vodafone wins this award based on an average actual speed of 2.74Mbps. Whilst this average is far lower than the up to 7.2Mbps speed they advertise, it was still considerably higher than the average actual speed of 1.77Mbps from all mobile broadband service providers.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION - T-Mobile
T-Mobile scored the highest marks with an impressive average customer satisfaction rating of 71%, marginally ahead of Vodafone who scored 70%.

BEST COVERAGE - Vodafone
Vodafone won this award because its product achieved more consistent speeds during our testing and also due to the fact that it received the least amount of customer complaints about coverage on our forums.

LAPTOP BUNDLE - Three (3)
3 won this award due to the overall value of its packages and the amount of choice on offer to the consumer. With a choice of 3 different HP laptops, which can be matched up with a wide range of their mobile broadband packages, consumers can mix and match to find the most suitable deal.

FAIREST PRICING - T-Mobile
T-Mobile was the clear winner of this award as they are the only mobile broadband provider to have no extra fees for exceeding download limits. This becomes more impressive when compared to other providers that can charge up to £100 per extra 1GB of data usage.

PAY AS YOU GO - Three (3)
3 tops this category being the first mobile broadband provider to offer a truly pay as you go mobile broadband offer with a low USB modem cost and no monthly fee. The ongoing data costs are still the best value on the market.

BEST OVERALL PROVIDER - Three (3)
3 won this award due to a number factors, in particular for the company's efforts to significantly bring down the cost of mobile broadband.

Interestingly neither O2 nor Orange won any awards or were even mentioned. That is hardly surprising given that O2 only recently entered the Mobile Broadband market and Orange has put precious little effort into promoting its own services.
