Popular UK ISP
IDNet informs us that they expect to be able to offer an 'up to' 24Mbps (ADSL2+) broadband service from next month. The details surfaced in an interview we had been conducting with the provider, which is due to go online early next week:
Simon Davies, a Director for IDNet, told ISPreview.co.uk: "It doesnt really present much of a different challenge to when ADSL Max was introduced. The main benefit for the consumer is that usage allowances will probably increase and prices may come down a bit too. ISPs will need to invest, as always, to keep capacity available but if the retail prices are sustainable then the investment should be possible."
Details of IDNet's forthcoming packages have yet to be released and readers should check back next week to see what the provider had to say about other recent market developments.
IDNets products are typically
BT based and as a result their new packages will not be unbundled (
LLU). This would make their services available to everybody with a 21CN enabled exchange, much like Entanets 24Mbps products. Some extra information can also be found on their website:
The new service will be available to all new and existing customers whose BT Exchanges have been upgraded to the 21CN. BT are aiming to have upgraded enough Exchanges to 21CN to cover 40% of the population by next Spring. In addition, we also have a new 20CN Central on order, scheduled to be connected early in the New Year - date to be confirmed.
The products will be made possible thanks to IDNet's new Gigabit 'Host Link' into BT's 21st Century Network.
