Spitfire has followed
Vispa's morning lead to become one among the first providers to connect with
BT's WBC equipped 21st Century Network (21CN), allowing the provision of ADSL2+ broadband circuits with download speeds of 'up to' 24Mbps.
Spitfire aims to provide ADSL2+ nationally wherever
BT has upgraded the local exchange to 21CN. Currently 204 exchanges are scheduled to be live by the end of 2008, rising to 589 by April 2009. Prices start from £29 per month for a standard service with 448Kbps upstream performance, rising to £49 for a premium option with 1.2Mbps upstream:
For Spitfire, Susie Ward, Marketing and HR Director said, ADSL2+ is a development of our existing ADSL Max product and it is as reliable as conventional ADSL broadband. For mission critical applications we can provide a back-up connection, which costs from just £15 per month. With many businesses now requiring fast download and upload broadband speeds for e-commerce applications we anticipate a high demand for ADSL2+.
Spitfire notes that it does not traffic shape or block ports. Public IP addresses are provided free of charge with TotalCare 24/7 Support and other high-level support options. The service is subject to a standard fair usage policy. Naturally its products are aimed at businesses.
Entanet became the first
BT-based operator to introduce 24Mbps ADSL2+ services earlier this year, followed by AAISP and
Vispa today. We expect further providers to follow suit over the coming months. Its worth remembering that several unbundled (
LLU) non-
BT based ISPs have been offering such things for a couple of years now.
