Orange UK (France Telecom) claims to have completed "
significant improvements to its broadband network", which have allowed the operator to launch a number of new packages and make speeds of 'up to' 8Mbps a standard across all products.
The provider hopes that users will see these enhancements manifest in other ways too, such as greater service reliability, quicker and more effective customer support and cheaper services:
Mike Newnham, Vice President of Consumer,
Orange UK said: "
We have spent the past 12 months working hard on fixing the basics. As a result weve seen huge improvements in the quality of our broadband network and the service we offer, and our customers are already providing us with some extremely positive feedback. Thats why today were able to unveil an up to 8 Meg Home Broadband service as standard for new customers right across our broadband offering."
Orange has revamped its three main land-line broadband packages, which are as follows and start with an updated version of their "FREE" option for existing mobile phone customers:
Home Starter - £FREE (Per Month)* Requires existing
Orange pay monthly mobile plan
- Up to 8 Meg speed
- 10GB usage allowance
- Inclusive evening and weekend calls
- Free wireless router
- Free webmail and 150MB website space
Home Select - £10- Up to 8 Meg speed
- Unlimited usage allowance (Vague Fair Usage Policy)
- Evening and weekend calls with second line
- Free wireless router

- Unlimited usage allowance (Vague Fair Usage Policy)
- Included Line Rental
- Inclusive weekend and evening calls to UK landlines

The lengthy 18 month minimum contract term still applies to all packages and the pricing above is only applicable to those covered by
Orange's unbundled (
LLU) network. People living outside of this coverage will be charged an extra £8 per month.
Orange are clearly attempting to turn over a new leaf and hopefully prevent any further customer churn, although the proof is in the pudding and whether or not the improvements are felt by existing users. The ISPs ratings in our review system remain low and hopefully existing customers will update their entrys to reflect any improvements in due course (
