Customers on TalkTalk's (The Carphone Warehouse) 'up to' 8Mbps broadband ADSL service have informed us of an increase in their upstream (upload) speeds from 448Kbps to 1024Kbps (1Mbps). The move appears to be part of a gradual rollout across the ISPs 1,600 exchanges.

It's known that some customers have been on 'up to' 24Mbps (ADSL2+) profiles since the summer, although this latest round is also affecting the standard 8Mbps users suggesting that a full 24Mbps rollout may not be far off.

Presently much of TalkTalk's unbundled (LLU) network is already capable of handling ADSL2+ speeds, though the provider limits most connections to 8Mbps. This allows it more control to balance service and costs by limiting bandwidth consumption, among other things.

UPDATE: In addition to this news, a new customisable broadband option will launch next Tuesday called 'myTalkTalk'. This combines the current standard package tariffs with special 'Boost' options to improve the service for an extra £4 per month.

Six 'Boosts' will be offered, including one that increases the top speed, another for an 80GB download allowance and two voice call enhancements. Security and call feature enhancements will also be offered.
