Netgear UK has been forced to recall all 82,000 of its '
HomePlug Turbo' based XE103 85Mbps Powerline Ethernet adaptors after it discovered that one of the chips could breakdown and overheat, potentially causing a fire.
Powerline Ethernet technology can be plugged directly into power sockets, converting a buildings existing power cabling into a simple local area network. Harnessing such a strong energy source does have its risks and Netgear's problems may cause wider concern.
