Netgear UK Recalls XE103 Powerline Ethernet Adaptors

Netgear UK has been forced to recall all 82,000 of its 'HomePlug Turbo' based XE103 85Mbps Powerline Ethernet adaptors after it discovered that one of the chips could breakdown and overheat, potentially causing a fire.

Powerline Ethernet technology can be plugged directly into power sockets, converting a buildings existing power cabling into a simple local area network. Harnessing such a strong energy source does have its risks and Netgear's problems may cause wider concern.
