BT Retail's current chief executive, Ian Livingston, has been named as the man that will take over from BT Group's current CEO, Ben Verwaayen. Livingston will step into the job on 1st June 2008, while Verwaayen, whom has been in his position for six years, will step down the day before.
Ben Verwaayen will best be remembered for the role he played in developing BT's broadband infrastructure and turning it into an affordable mass market technology:
Commenting on his time at BT Ben said: I have had six exciting years and I am extremely proud of the people in BT. Without them the companys recent success would not have been possible. I owe a particular debt of gratitude to the executive directors who have served alongside me on the Board. Francois Barrault and Hanif Lalani have made a magnificent contribution. They are outstanding leaders. Ian Livingston will lead the company from strength to strength when he takes over as CEO in June. He is a great guy with a fantastic record of business achievement.
We'd also like to thank Ben for his private assistance in resolving a number of crucial bulk broadband migration problems. Many will be hoping that his successor takes a more pro-active interest in addressing customers concerns about Phorm.
