The latest research from GfK has revealed that Europe's top Internet surfers live in the Nordic states of Iceland and Scandinavia. It's estimated that 88% of Icelands population aged 14 and above make regular use of the Internet, which compares with 63% in Britain. We've broken the figures down as follows:
- Iceland - 88%
- Finland - 81%
- Norway - 76%
- Denmark - 76%
- Sweden - 73%
- Austria - 67%
- Britain - 63%
- Germany - 61%
- Slovenia - 61%
- Estonia - 60%
- France - 56%
- Italy - 53%
- Ireland - 45%
- Portugal - 43%
- Spain - 35%
- Malta - 25%
The report highlights a clear divide between Eastern Europe and the better developed Western Europe, although Slovenia and Estonia appear to be noted exceptions to that rule.
