Hitwise has reported seeing a 14-fold increase in traffic to the BBC's iPlayer (IPTV) website between 8th December 2007 and 5th January 2008. The surge is likely to have been triggered by the BBC's introduction of a FLASH (website) based interface to its Internet TV service.
However, YouTube remains king of the online video websites, claiming nearly 9% of all UK Internet visits for the week ending 5th January 2008. That is roughly 12 times more than the BBC's iPlayer managed to pull in over the same period.
