The governments Home Office has today claimed that the UK is now one of the safest places in the world for children to surf the Internet:
Paul Goggins, Home Office Minister said: "Mobile phone technology and the Internet offer valuable services but at the same time we are aware of the potential for criminals to misuse this technology.
"The Government is committed to protecting our children - ensuring the police have the powers to detect and pursue offenders; the courts have the powers to deal with them; and introducing an offence of 'grooming' to tackle paedophile activity on and off-line.
"The work by the Task Force on Child Protection on the Internet has brought about a common understanding of the problems and challenges we face. Communications technology will continue to evolve, presenting new challenges. Our experience indicates that Internet safety and consumer protection is best achieved in co-operation with the industry. We have to continue to work together and spread our common understanding, to ensure that Britain continues to lead the world in child safety."More @
