Telewest's Wireless Home Networking

Posted: 18th Aug, 2004 By: MarkJ
Telewest Broadband's ISP wing, blueyonder, has linked up with Netgear to offer customers a wireless home networking service:

Design your own wire-free pad

Telewest Broadband has today expanded its existing partnership with Netgear, to provide its customers with a unique wireless home networking service.

An online wizard will enable the cable company's blueyonder broadband internet customers to design and configure a bespoke home network without the need to be a wireless whiz.

Consumers can then order the required kit online, with the option to add in new wireless devices such as Netgear's digital music player, or upgrade their broadband service to a faster speed.

The service is supported directly by Netgear and customers have the ability to re-visit their original blueprint to add on extras as their home network develops.

Chad Raube, director of internet at Telewest Broadband, said: "blueyonder wireless will enable net users to create a totally customised, wire-free home with the minimum amount of fuss and complexity.

"As more wireless digital devices come to market, we're going to see more and more consumers ditching their wires and join the wire-free world, enabling them to enjoy the benefits of a broadband home
"

Manda Rigby, UK & Ireland managing director for Netgear, comments: Netgear's collaboration with Telewest Broadband has enabled the successful delivery of easy-to-configure wireless networking solutions to the consumer marketplace. With the new web wizard offering step-by-step guidance we expect a dramatic increase in the adoption of wireless home networking by blueyonder customers."

The average cost of setting up a wireless home network will be around £75, although this will vary depending on the individual set-up.

A wireless channel on blueyonder.co.uk will also accompany the new service and will include information about wireless home networking and a video blutorial explaining to consumers about wireless.
