BT is shaking up both its business (BT Business) and consumer (BT Yahoo!) broadband ADSL product range to make the services more attractive and competitive by allowing them to run faster (512Kbps to 1Mbps regrade etc.) for the same price.
Firstly, BT Yahoo! is offering customers wishing to leave (genuine ones that have been with the ISP for 10 months+, not just those that "say" they will) a second chance known as the "
Anniversary Speed Regrade".
Essentially, disgruntled 512Kbps users are being offered a free upgrade to BT's 1Mbps product for the same monthly price as they currently pay. The offer is currently running under a 3month trial and there is a big catch, you have to commit to a 12 month contract.
Next we have BT's Business Broadband products, where BT has decided to follow NTL and
Telewest's lead by upping the speed of their packages to all customers without extra charge:
BT are soon to launch a massive shake up of their existing business portfolio - including an automatic and free regrade for all Network 500 (512k) Business customers to the ISPs "Network 1000" (1Mbit) solution, and Network 1000 customers regraded for free to Network 2000 (2Mbit) - all with no change in the current monthly subscription prices. Another key change sees the introduction the "Network 1000" option provision becoming entry level.
Following BTWholesale's announcement in August this year regarding distance limitations, BT Business Broadband will also be removing their Network 500 product from the shelves - the option for ordering remaining only to those customers who, due to line conditions, cannot get a 1Mbit connection. For example, their 1Mbps product currently costs £100, thus these will now become 2Mbps users at the same price. The whole process will last roughly three months, starting on the 1st October 2004. More @
