ISP AOL UK has introduced a new educational resource for children, a style of educational online 'Learning Channel'. The new content area also supports the present national curriculum:
The Learning channel will complement classroom-based teaching by offering a raft of new broadband content and features, specifically tailored to the needs of school pupils, and with a strong focus on supporting the National Curriculum.
Sheila Sang, Head of the AOL Learning channel, said: Our consumer research has shown that there is already an extremely strong demand among existing and potential broadband users for educational content. Parents are looking for ways in which they can make the most of their available time to support and supplement their childrens education, particularly in light of the Governments goal of a longer learning day.
As part of the Learning channel, AOL will be offering its broadband members free exclusive access to content from ClipBank, a Channel 4 produced video library tailored to support the National Curriculum. Video clips covering a variety of subjects including history, geography and science will be added to the service over the coming weeks, aimed at reaching students between the ages of eleven to sixteen.
In addition, AOL members will have access to a range of other curriculum-related support on a range of subjects, as well as AOLs innovative Ask A Teacher service, which enables AOL members to get advice and feedback from real teachers while using the Learning channel. AOL is also the only service provider to offer Oxford University Presss Oxford Reference Library online, for no extra charge, giving members access to a selection of its reference books and dictionaries.
Sang added: The Internet, and in particular, broadband, is a valuable educational resource, both in schools and at home, when it is used safely and with the appropriate safety software features and parental supervision. With this in mind, were focusing on making our educational content interactive, useful and fun. The channel content supports that used in schools, so teachers, parents and children can all benefit from having access to high quality and relevant material.
