ISP AOL UK has today vented its frustration at the lack of any easy to use European legislation against junk e-mail (SPAM).
The problem has prevented the ISP from pursuing a similar crackdown against SPAM in the Europe as has recently been conducted in the USA:
Last week America's largest ISP filed lawsuits against 14 individuals and companies who it says have sent unsolicited commercial emails through its network. But the service provider has admitted that European spammers will be let off lightly because of the lack of useful European legislation that can be enforced against offenders.
'In Europe we don't have any legislation that's easy to use,' said a spokesman at AOL UK. 'We want to make an example of people, but the legal framework isn't there.'
The NewMediaZero item reports that AOL blocks a total of roughly 2 Billion junk e-mails per day, and is seeking to make a legal example of the culprits.
