THUS Cuts Business Broadband Prices

Posted: 01st May, 2003 By: MarkJ
UK Operator THUS Telecom has cut the cost of its Demon Internet ISP supplied business broadband ADSL services. Typically this is linked with BTWholesales’ recent price reductions:

THUS SLASHES BUSINESS BROADBAND COSTS

THUS plc, one of the UK's leading providers of Internet, voice, networking and contact centre services, announced today that it is passing reductions in BT's monthly wholesale ADSL charges on to its Demon branded ISP business customers. The price cuts are expected to reinforce THUS's position as one of the leading providers of ADSL services to UK businesses.

Demon Express Plus will be reduced from a monthly fee of £75 to £45 and Demon Express Pro from £150 to £79. In addition, THUS is halving connection costs for both services to £125 even though BT charges for set-up services have not been reduced. This means the total cost for the first year of services, including set-up fees and monthly rental, will decrease by 42% for Demon Express Plus customers and by 48% for those subscribing to Demon Express Pro. The new pricing structure will be effective from 1st May 2003.

"We are very pleased to be in a position to reduce prices for our Demon Express Pro and Plus services, as we believe that lower costs will enable many more UK businesses to benefit from broadband," commented Phil Male, Chief Operating Officer, THUS plc. "This is particularly true of the set-up cost - high costs for a managed set-up are a significant barrier to entry, but many smaller businesses are not equipped with the technical knowledge to follow the self-install route. We are now offering a set-up service that is not only fully managed, it is actually cheaper than doing it yourself."

He continued, "While we welcome the wholesale price cuts, it is disappointing that we cannot reduce costs for all our business ADSL services. BT's price changes relate only to 'IPStream' connections - the wholesale end-to-end service provided by BT Wholesale. BT has not passed on similar price advantages to its 'DataStream' service, which allows service providers to use their own networks to differentiate and add value to the standard services provided by BT Wholesale, furthermore BT has increased some of the infrastructure costs. As already announced we have asked the industry regulator, OFTEL, to investigate the disparity in BT's wholesale pricing."

The Demon Express Plus and Demon Express Pro services are specially designed for small to medium businesses, offering low contention ratios, high downstream bandwidth, unrestricted traffic and always on as well as additional services including email, domain name and web space. Both services are engineer-installed and come supplied with a DSL modem, splitter and router.
