The latest Government funded National Statistics Omnibus Survey has found that 11.4 million (45%) households in the UK can access the Internet from home, which compares with 39% during 2001:
By February 2003, 62 per cent of adults in Great Britain had accessed the Internet at some time in their lives - approximately 28.7 million adults. The percentage of adults who had ever used the Internet decreased steadily with age and ranged from 95 per cent of adults aged 16 to 24 to 15 per cent for those aged 65 and over.
Among those adults who had used the Internet for private use, 79 per cent used it to find information about goods or services and 72 per cent used it for e-mail. Forty-eight per cent used it to order tickets, goods or services and 40 per cent for finding education-related information.
The most popular purchases in the three months prior to interview were travel (31 per cent), tickets for events (21 per cent), music or CDs (21 per cent) and books or magazines (19 per cent).
By February 2003, 38 per cent of adults had never accessed the Internet. Three-quarters of these adults stated that they were very unlikely to access the Internet in the next year, representing over a quarter of all adults.http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=8
