BTOpenworld has today issued us with a response to an earlier news item regarding how some of its supplied business broadband ADSL routers had leaky capacitors:
BT Wholesale classifies this as a faulty PSU (Power Supply Unit) on the Efficient 5861. This fault affects only a small number of routers that were installed early in the product's life and as a result has only affected a small amount of end users. Within the repair process these are treated as normal faults.
It is also worth noting that routers supplied under the IPStream S product must not be removed, interfered with or altered in any way as opening them would expose the end user to dangerous voltages. Modifying the PSU could potentially cause these routers to become unsafe.
BT Wholesale identified the fault at the time of the occurrence and has addressed the issue with those customers that were affected.
