NicoMôn Wireless has today joined the growing number of broadband wireless ISPs by lifting the lid on its new offers for England and Wales. Sadly coverage is currently limited to a trial on the Island of Anglesey.
The website has yet to be updated and details are sparse, although we were sent the following:
Residential: Set-up: £220 (window mounted antenna) £300 (roof mounted aerial) / Subscription: £40+VAT
Business: Set-up: As above / Subscription: £40+VAT, £45 +VAT for static IP
System uses proprietary 802.11b equipment from Proxim and is therefore NOT WiFi compatible - off the shelf 802.11b kit will not work. This was chosen for performance, reliability and security reasons.
Service will offer 512/512 - a 2mbps upgrade on our leased line is planned but this will be used to ease contention and not to offer faster access.
A pilot is underway on the Island of Anglesey where the service is planned for roll out - hopefully by mid July. Subscribers for the pilot are welcome from the Llangefni area.
