The European Commission has stated that the adoption of hi-speed (broadband) Internet access is essential to its grander eEurope vision. Sadly some concerns remain:
The Commission wants to establish an environment by 2005 that will give everybody an opportunity to participate in the 'global information society,' providing modernised public services, creating jobs and boosting productivity.
But Andrea Servida, head of sector, information society unit at the European Commission, says that eEurope will not be achieved - and certainly not within the time scales set - unless certain technologies are adopted on a wide scale.
'There are two main enablers to eEurope,' he told delegates at last week's Infosecurity show. 'One of them is broadband, which we are trying to develop a coherent framework for, and the other is security. We want to develop a culture of security by the end of 2005,' he said.More @
