Speaking at the Internet World conference, BT confirmed that it had still failed to meet the magic one million broadband ADSL subscribers, yet it's not far off (950,000+). However, that wasn't all they said:
Nine out of ten businesses now hooked up to broadband wouldn't go back to dial-up access - even if it was free.
So said BT's chief broadband officer, Alison Ritchie, who used a brief speech at Internet World conference and exhibition to underline BT's commitment to broadband.
And in a dig at a recent announcement by NTL and Telewest that they have signed up more than one million cable broadband punters, BT Wholesale said in a footnote to one of their documents: "Cable companies have announced that they had passed 1 million - we cannot comment on whether NTL's 128k service is truly a broadband service."Wed have to agree; while NTLs technology may be of the broadband style, its speed does not justify it to be classified in the same group.
