The Sunday Telegraph newspaper is reporting that popular high-street retailer Dixons may soon sever its links with UK ISP
Freeserve:
Dixons has held secret talks with both AOL and BT as it draws up plans to dump Freeserve from a key joint venture agreement. If the talks with AOL or BT are successful, it would end one of the most extraordinary business relationships created during the dotcom boom.
Freeserve was founded by Dixons in September 1998. Ten months later the retailer floated 20 per cent of the firm on the stock market, putting a value of £1.5bn on the internet service provider (ISP).
Under a long-standing marketing agreement, Dixons, the largest seller of personal computers in the UK, pre-loads Freeserve software on PCs sold in branches of Dixons, PC World and Currys. The retailer receives a commission for every user who registers with Freeserve.Perhaps the one thing we dont need to see are more free AOL CDs, you could quite easily build a small city with the number of discarded ones.
