BT is aiming to further push its broadband ADSL products by re-entering the multiplayer gaming area with a new platform:
Games are seen as a key area to drive broadband take-up, but there have been problems. BT Openworld closed the multiplayer service of its Games Domain site early this year.
Peter Oliver, business development manager at BT Retail, said the company was putting together a platform for its new service.
'The platform we're building isn't just for games, it's also for education and business,' he said. 'The product will be out of development by August, with a customer roll-out some time after that. We've been talking at industry events to warm up the content providers.'
Unfortunately details are somewhat thin on the ground, although any commercial service is likely to suffer under the overwhelming weight of pre-existent free servers. More @ NewMediaZero.
