The Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) has warned that 'phishing', a method used by criminals to gain your personal and financial details, could soon become a problem for UK ISPs:
"Phishers are becoming more organised," David Jevans, APWG chairman, told vnunet.com. "They are linking up with spammers to disseminate the fraudulent emails more widely and virus writers in order to open back doors into PCs. When phishers target an ISP, they are after someone's financial details as well as account numbers and passwords."
But UK ISPs claim not to be unduly concerned, saying they have known incidents of phishing before, and that few consumers will fall for such scams. It may be true that the majority of people do not fall for such scams, yet clearly enough still do, thus making it a valid method of fraud for the criminals.
Not everybody is Internet aware enough to spot such frauds. More @
