TW Launches User Account Manager

Posted: 05th Apr, 2004 By: MarkJ
Telewests UK ISP division, blueyonder, has begun offering moneysupermarket.com's 'View My Account' service to its customers. The system enables users to view and access all their Internet accounts (bank, credit cards etc.) from one page:

Telewest Broadband has become the latest UK ISP to offer
moneysupermarket.com's View My Accounts to its customers, providing a one-stop snapshot of their online accounts. Launch research also shows that consumers are becoming increasingly more reliant, on an average of six different sets of ID passwords and pin numbers, in order to manage their email, reward and financial affairs online.

blueyonder My Accounts enables consumers to view and access all their internet accounts - whether bank accounts, credit cards, savings, email accounts and e-bills - on one web page. They can also instantly compare the users' financial accounts with the most competitive providers in the market.

Chad Raube, director of internet at Telewest Broadband, said: "With over 80%* of online consumers having used the internet as a source of information on financial products in the last six months, ID overload is a common problem with today's web savvy surfers. Our research has shown that the average internet user now has six or more separate usernames and passwords, with 11% having to juggle eleven or more.

blueyonder My Accounts will liberate surfers of memory meltdown by giving them one single username and password to log onto all of their online accounts.
"

Chris Nixon, director at moneysupermarket.com Financial Group Ltd said: "It's clear that Telewest Broadband understands that there are ever increasing pressures on consumers to remember more ID passwords and pin numbers in order to manage their information online, and we think View My Accounts is an ideal way to alleviate that problem. We hope to work more closely with Telewest Broadband in developing a tailored solution for their customers in the account aggregation market."

The moneysupermarket.com service offers consumers a similar standard of security that banks currently offer and will be fully audited to ensure that best security practice is employed throughout. moneysupermarket.com also indemnifies the customer for any money that is removed from their account(s) as a result of unauthorised access and/or unauthorised transactions that are caused by moneysupermarket.com's negligence or fraud.

It may be simple, but is it secure? Remembering different usernames and passwords can be a pain, yet many would agree that it's also a necessary evil.

One set of login details holding the key to so much information is a risky thing indeed.
