Eclipse ISP Touts Rural BB Campaign

Posted: 27th Apr, 2004 By: MarkJ
Eclipse Internet has today highlighted the success of its own rural broadband campaign - "We Want Broadband". The ISP claims that its assistance has helped 2,000 exchanges reach their ADSL trigger level:

Eclipse 'We Want Broadband' campaign speeds up delivery of broadband services to rural communities

Following today's announcement by BT that it plans to speed up the delivery of broadband services to rural communities, Eclipse Internet has revealed the scale of its very successful 'We Want Broadband' campaign' which was launched in January 2003. (See: http://www.wewantbroadband.co.uk)

Since the start of the campaign Eclipse has sent out 320,000 Broadband promotional leaflets to its 800+ campaigners, 435 of whom have campaign web sites hosted for free by Eclipse. With the help of the Eclipse campaign, more than 2,000 exchanges have hit their trigger and are either now broadband enabled or are in the process of being enabled. BT has confirmed that the take up of Broadband at exchanges that have been subject of a campaign is stronger than those that were upgraded without the pressure of a campaign.

Jomie Carmichael, co-founder and director of award winning Eclipse Internet said of the announcement: "Eclipse Internet's tremendously successful 'We Want Broadband' Campaign has played a major role in the success of BT's scheme, clearly demonstrating that there is demand for broadband in the UK. Since its launch last year the 'We Want Broadband' pre registration scheme has accepted a staggering 134,020 registrations in over 3,400 different exchanges."

The following sample of exchange registrations shows the importance of the Eclipse campaign to the decision by BT to speed up the rollout of ADSL Broadband:

Exchange - Trigger - Eclipse – Total
Camelford 500 - 483 - 513
Maesglas 500 - 481 - 606
Castle 500 - 479 - 525
Waringstown 500 - 460 - 541
Dungiven 500 - 454 - 548
Capel 500 - 453 - 582
Pwllheli 500 - 447 -
Wroxham 500 - 433 - 526

In addition to being the first ISP to give dedicated support to local broadband campaigners, Eclipse Internet's recent achievements also include being the first ISP with online ordering of ADSL and the first to offer SDSL to end-users in a commercial environment.
