Bulldog Communications is backing The London Grid for Learning Consortium (LGfL) in their 'fight' to provide safer and more educational home surfing via their vISP broadband package:
Bulldog, Digitalbrain and London Grid For Learning Team Up in The Fight To Provide Safer Broadband For The Home
The London Grid for Learning Consortium (LGfL) has launched an ADSL broadband service (Home Connect and Home Connect Plus) to enable parents and pupils to benefit from high-speed Internet access and the LGfL educational broadband network. The service is being provided to LGfL by Digitalbrain, a leading application service provider to the public sector, in partnership with broadband heavyweight Bulldog Communications.
Home Connect, priced from £24.99 +VAT, is available at speeds of up to 512 kbps, 1 Mbps and 2 Mbps with contention ratios as low as 40:1. Home Connect Plus, priced from £28.99 + VAT, offers Bulldog's innovative 'time of day' feature enabling users to benefit from higher speeds when they need them, during evenings, weekends and public holidays. A connection fee of £50 + VAT applies to the Home Connect and Home Connect Plus services.
Both Home Connect and Home Connect Plus contain a powerful filtering tool, which filters content before it reaches the home, protecting children from accessing undesirable Internet content. It also offers SPAM filtering and virus protection, 25 MB of personal web storage space, LGfL WebMail facilities (with POP3 option) and access to the European Computer Driving Licence e-learning course (ECDL) as standard.
There are over a million pupils that have access to individual LGfL specific logins that they can use from school to access content and emails as well as 25 MB of personal web space. Now, when connecting to the Internet from home using Home Connect or Home Connect Plus, they will be able to access the same content, emails, homework, assignments as well as other items of interest quickly and safely.
Schools will also benefit from every new connection to the Home Connect and Home Connect Plus services. LGfL is offering free connections for staff, and a 'cash back' facility for each new connection, based on the number of Home Connect accounts attached to the school.
Tim Stirrup, Development Manager for LGfL commented, "The LGfL exists to enable pupils and teachers to benefit from broadband connectivity and educational content during the school day. By enabling safer family broadband access to educational content at home LGfL is delighted to enable parents and pupils to use the Internet to enhance their education outside of school."
Nick Robinson, head of Digitalbrain's education division said, "Digitalbrain is very pleased to continue to be a key partner of LGfL. The launch of a family broadband service is an exciting addition to their strategy as it broadens access to learning resources and strengthens home-school links to the benefit of the entire London education community."
Marcel Horst, MD of Bulldog's Partner Channel said, "Bulldog is delighted that, through our virtual ISP service, we have been able to unite all the stakeholders in the London State Education system. The Home Connect service demonstrates the perfect application of the power of broadband. Parents, students, teachers and LEA (Local Education Authorities) staff can all experience the benefits of broadband by participating in this unique broadband community."
