BT has surprised us by confirming that a public 256Kbps wholesale "broadband" (we'll call it 'hi-speed') ADSL service trial will get underway early next month!:
The market trial of the BT IPStream Home 250 product will begin on 5 July if internal BT trials during June prove successful.
IPStream Home 250 will give ISPs the chance to offer broadband services to their customers based on BT's network that give an internet connection of up to five times faster than dial-up. The monthly wholesale rental for the trial is £12.25 (ex VAT) or £8.40 (ex vat) for capacity charging, with £50 (ex VAT) for activation.BT has been quite for so long regarding the prospect of a 256Kbps product that we'd almost given up on them.
It'll be interesting to see if they end up promoting it as "broadband", noting their past stance that anything less than 512Kbps should not be considered such (we'd agree). More @
