One of our recent surveys found that the majority of respondents wouldn't adopt 3G broadband wireless mobile phone technology unless it became cheaper. Now a report by Harris Interactive has revealed that 60% of the UK isn't even interested in 3G:
With the long awaited roll-out claiming to revolutionise the mobile market with all its technological capabilities, 54% of people in the UK say they won't even use their phones for much more than a voice call.
The report, which supports recent moves by operators to introduce 3G services gradually rather than through a huge consumer branding push, adds that 52% of Europeans think the industry has failed to explain what 3G is all about and why it is worth having, while 55% are under the impression that 3G will be expensive to use.
It also details consumer concerns that 3G services may be unreliable; with 51% of respondents saying an undependable service will damage an operator's reputation. 51% agreed that if 3G-handset demand can't be met, the reputation of mobile network operators would be damaged.Issues, such as high data costs, humungous phones, support quality and a lack of working services havent helped. 3G has huge potential; it would be a terrible waste to see such a system fail.
