Operator THUS Group has welcomed both BT's LLU cost cutting measures and Ofcom's latest wholesale broadband access market review:
THUS RESPONDS TO OFCOM AND BT ANNOUNCEMENTS
May 13th - Following announcements today from Ofcom and BT regarding carrier pre-select, local loop unbundling and wholesale broadband access markets, THUS makes the following statements:
Richard Sweet, Head of Regulation and Interconnect at THUS plc, said: "We welcome Ofcom's decisive action to mitigate BT's tariff changes but much still depends on the detail of Ofcom's proposals. The proposed changes in BT's wholesale costs and products should allow companies such as THUS to compete on more equal terms with BT. Ultimately savings should flow through to the customers of CPS operators and mitigate the increase in BT's line rental charges."
Commenting on Ofcom's CPS announcement, Bill Allan, Chief Executive, THUS plc said: "I applaud Ofcom's decisiveness. This sends a clear message to BT that they cannot get away with undermining competition. It is good news for consumers and good news for the industry".
Richard Sweet continued: "We welcome Ofcom's final statement on its wholesale broadband access market review. We agree with main findings of the review, in particular the importance of creating the right incentives for investment in DataStream. This will lead to greater innovation and competition, and improved choice and value for consumers. Much still depends on the outcome of Ofcom's IPStream-DataStream margin investigation, due at the end of May."
"Furthermore, we welcome Ofcom's first consultation document on its local loop unbundling market review. We look forward to reading the document in detail, but are encouraged by BT's announcement on further price reductions as Ofcom's commitment to addressing the thorny process issues, which contributed to the failure of LLU first time round. Ultimately this should lead to increased innovation, choice and value for consumers."
