As if we didn't already have enough satellite ISP's, many of which share the same supplier, here comes another one-way provider called '
Broadband Satellite Solutions'. The service is due to go live during mid-June 2004:
Broadband Satellite Solutions has just gone live throughout the whole of the U.K. This ultra high- speed Internet access system (up to 40 times faster downloading than conventional dial-up) is the ultimate solution for customers unable to access conventional Broadband.
How? BSS is a hybrid of two transmission technologies terrestrial and satellite. All a customer requires is a suitable location for a satellite dish and a telephone line (or even a mobile) and BSS will do the rest supply all the kit, install and take care of all the servicing requirements under contract.
For a cost comparable to conventional Broadband, BSS provides download speeds of up to 2Mbps, seamless web surfing, downloading of larger web pages and files plus the streaming of TV channels from the largest European broadcasters and the full enjoyment of the latest audio video and other multi-media content the internet has to offer.
BSS will launch the system with non-stop demonstrations at Internet World at Londons Earls Court, 15 17 June. Press demonstrations can also be arranged at the HQ of BSS in Ware, Hertfordshire. Full details can also be accessed on http://www.broadbandss.comContrary to the last sentence, the website isn't live yet and consequently we have no further information.
Hopefully when it launches BSS will be able to distinguish itself in some way from the minefield of choices out there.
