THUS Takes On Amstrads E-m@iler

Posted: 31st Mar, 2003 By: MarkJ
Amstrad has today announced that it has moved the installed customer base of the first generation model of its e-m@iler device from the original provider to THUS Telecom:

THUS SELECTED TO SUPPORT AMSTRAD "E-m@iler" and "E-m@ilerplus" SERVICES

THUS plc, one of the UK's leading providers of voice, networking, Internet and contact centre services, today announced that it has successfully moved the installed Amstrad customer base of the first generation model of the e-m@iler, from the original telecom provider to THUS.

The service and technology platform for the current model is already operated by THUS. Through its relationship with THUS, Amstrad will now receive an increased proportion of revenues generated by e-m@iler and e-m@ilerplus services.

Amstrad's e-m@ilerplus is a state-of-the-art digital display telephone combining telephony, SMS, e-mail and Internet browsing services. In addition, users can download Sinclair ZX Spectrum games and personalised ringtones. The telephones have proven extremely popular with people who do not require, or do not feel comfortable using a PC.

Amstrad e-mailer and e-mailerplus users benefit from the award winning service provided THUS. Commenting on the agreement Bill Allan, Chief Executive of THUS plc, said: "E-mail, Internet access and SMS are culturally mainstream, but the speed at which these new technologies have been adopted has left millions of UK citizens digitally excluded. This digital divide was highlighted in a recent survey, which identified that a staggering 14 million people in the UK have yet to send or receive an e-mail.

The e-m@iler and e-m@ilerplus have already helped people to get online by providing them with a cost effective and user-friendly alternative to a PC. I am confident that the commercial and technical solution we have developed for Amstrad will provide them with the platform it needs to build upon this success.
"

Simon Sugar, Commercial Director at Amstrad said: "We believe that our current customer base represents the tip of the iceberg in terms of people that are looking to get online but who do not want to spend a significant amount of money on a PC or who find it more convenient, and quicker, to go online through the e-m@ilerplus from their living room.

We expect the simplicity and reliability of the Amstrad e-m@ilerplus to continue to be the key attraction of the product for Britain's digitally excluded citizens. THUS has lived up to its award winning reputation for service and reliability in its work with Amstrad and we are delighted to announce that we will be expanding our relationship.
"

We’ve always liked the idea of Amstrad’s e-m@ailer technology, however the above local call rate charge for physically using the service is still by far and away the most off-putting aspect. Many would rather pay more for the device and less on the calls than the other way around.
