BT LAUNCH FREE VIDEO AND PHOTO E-MAIL TRIAL FROM SELECTED LONDON INTERNET KIOSKS
BT has launched a free trial of video and photo e-mail from selected Internet Kiosks in London giving residents and visitors in the capital a new way of sending messages to friends and loved ones.
For two weeks from today until March 7, customers at ten BT Internet Kiosks in central London can record a 30-second video clip of themselves and e-mail it to friends or relatives free of charge. Alternatively, they can take a still photo and send it free with an e-mail message.
The technology is quick and easy to use with simple, step-by-step on-screen instructions for customers. Video clips can even be reviewed and re-recorded so customers can ensure they are word perfect before sending them.
The Internet Kiosks offering the new services display bright yellow posters and are outside Topshop in Oxford Street W1, Victoria Coach Station SW1, Terminal 3 Heathrow Airport, Eurostar arrivals at Waterloo International rail station, Cranbourn Street WC2 near Leicester Square, the St Georges Centre St Ann's Road Harrow and in Prebend Street, Islington N1.
Paul Hendron, director of BT Payphones, said: "Video e-mail is a fantastic new and unusual way of sending messages. We hope that as many people as possible - Londoners and visitors to the city - will take advantage of the free offer to surprise their friends and family."
From March 8, video e-mail will cost £1 for each message and photo e-mail will be 50p for each one. If the trial is successful, the new services may be extended to other BT Internet Kiosks in London and across the country.
BT is bringing the internet and e-mail to the high street and aiming to increase the number of "e-payphones" across the UK to 20,000 over the next five years, turning the familiar phone box into the worlds largest network of public internet kiosks. More than 80 per cent of the kiosks will be fitted with high-speed BT Broadband at speeds up to ten times faster than a standard dial-up connection.
Customers can surf the internet, check and send e-mails, as well as send text messages to mobile phones and make payphone calls from the kiosks, which feature a built-in keyboard, trackerball and colour touch sensitive screen.
For the price itd be more affordable to send a picture message using a modern mobile camera phone.
