We've already learned that the Home Office will water down its so-called '
Snooping Charter' by only allowing security services to view personal Internet data.
Today the government should officially reveal the new changes, along with any other alterations:
The government has since admitted it made a mistake and the new proposals will have only five new bodies given access. These include the Serious Fraud Office, fire authorities, NHS trusts and the Scottish Drug Enforcement Agency.
Other organisations such as trading standards departments will have access only to your name and address, not the flow of information or the destination.
There will also be a new criminal offence of unlawful access to the data to ensure no-one is taking advantage of the new rules. The new proposal appears to be somewhat better than the original, although we have yet to see whether the changes will be enough to convince any sceptics. More @
