BTOpenworld, Comet & X-Box Team Up

Posted: 11th Mar, 2003 By: MarkJ
UK ISP BTOpenworld has teamed up with Comet, the high street retail chain, and Microsoft's X-Box games console to help promote and sell broadband services:

BT OPENWORLD AND COMET SHOOT XBOX INTO THE BROADBAND SPACE

BT Openworld is to work with Comet to offer BT Openworld and Xbox branded discs within 44 of Comet's larger stores.

The discs will be available in the Games Zone from Xbox Live branded dispensers, enabling shoppers to pick up the new Xbox Live kit and BT Openworld broadband at the same time. Xbox Live offers the ultimate broadband online gaming experience. It enables gamers to hook up to the net, find their friends easily and talk to other players during the game through the Xbox Communicator headset, download current statistics, new levels and characters to their Xbox hard drive, and play online. BT Openworld is currently the official Xbox compatible ADSL broadband provider in the UK.

Chris Jones, head of partnerships with BT Openworld, said: "This deal with Comet is part of an ongoing commitment from BT Openworld to help support broadband roll-out in the UK. Content will be key to take-up and Xbox is a great example of a technology that will encourage more people to sign up for broadband. Having both the Xbox kit and BT Openworld broadband available side-by-side in the Comet stores will make the shopping experience a whole lot easier for customers."

Ali Burford, marketing manager, with Comet, added: "At Comet we're delighted to be able to offer our customers the full solution from broadband connection with BT Openworld to the Xbox Live starter kit, games and accessories enabling customers to really get the most from their Xbox console."

The discs will be available from March 14, 2003.
