A new report from eMarketer states that mobile (wireless) Internet access is still largely unpopular throughout Europe.
The low popularity is in stark contrast to the high penetration of Mobile Phones and PDAs:
In countries with high levels of PC penetration like Sweden and the UK, only ten per cent are accessing the internet from a laptop. Across the continent, the average is seven per cent.
Only in Germany is mobile phone access showing any noticeable signs of life, with 15 per cent there logging on to the internet from their cell phones. In Austria, Denmark, Finland and Italy, virtually no consumers have signed up to such services. The
Europemedia item notes that the number of people accessing the Internet from cyber cafes is negligible, yet steady at 8%.
