The Independent newspaper has reported that the UKs telecoms regulator,
Oftel, is investigating an anti-competitive complaint from NTL regarding BTs new BSkyB broadband deal:
BT and BSkyB launched the joint package in October. It gives existing subscribers to Sky World £80 off the price of equipment for BT's broadband internet service. On top of this, subscribers receive a £20 credit on their Sky bill.
According to an internal Oftel report, the investigation will determine whether the joint initiative puts competitors at a disadvantage and whether it discriminates against BT customers who are not Sky subscribers.BT has stated that it is cooperating fully with
Oftel, a resolution is expected around Easter - unless France vetos it (sorry, couldn't resist) =].
