Vodafone has revealed that it intends to launch its own 3G (UTMS) broadband wireless mobile phone service in the UK sometime during the second half of this year.
The comments were made by chief executive Christopher Gent in Focus, a German magazine:
Gent says that the company needs another three to six months to resolve the last technical issues surrounding the dropping of calls from soft handover when subscribers shift from 2G to 3G coverage areas.
Soft handover allows communication with more than one cell site in order to always seek out the highest quality signal. This leaves operators such as T-Mobile, Orange and O2; although O2 has already made it clear that a 3G service may be delayed until 2004. More @
