UK ISP Supanet has quietly announced its new
Broadband Silver package, which is based off ADSL and runs at 256Kbps instead of the usual 512Kbps.
It's not clear whether the new service is based off of BTWholesale's forthcoming product of a similar speed, although ISPs can control their own bandwidth:
As a special promo, those who sign up to 'Silver 256' will get a 512kbs service for six months before it is wound down to 256kbs. The package will be available from The Computer World outlets or from the ISP's Web site. It's worth pointing out that one other ISP, Tiscali, launched a similar service several months ago.
The Register reports that the package will cost roughly £18 per month, which is a couple of pounds cheaper than its rival.
