HP Selects BTOpenworlds Broadband

Posted: 27th Mar, 2003 By: MarkJ
Hewlett-Packard (HP) has chosen UK ISP BTOpenworld for its new joint initiative, which is designed to help make it quicker and easier for consumers to get broadband access:

HEWLETT-PACKARD SELECTS BT OPENWORLD AS BROADBAND PROVIDER OF CHOICE

This spring, HP launches a trial range of broadband-enabled PCs packaged with BT Openworld's introductory broadband discs. The PCs will have an in-built high-speed ADSL modem and will be available from PC WORLD outlets across the UK.

Customers opting for BT Openworld broadband will be able to take advantage of free line activation that previously cost £65. They won't have to pay for an external modem either, which means a further saving of £50. Removing the need to install broadband on their PC and having to buy a separate modem makes getting high speed, always-on internet even easier.

Chris Jones, head of partnerships at BT Openworld said: "This deal is testimony to our ongoing commitment to consumers and is ideal for customers who are upgrading to a new PC and have not yet taken advantage of the benefits of high-speed internet. At BT Openworld, we continue to explore new ways to bring added value and better service to our customers.

Broadband uptake will increase throughout 2003 and it makes sense for high-speed modems to be included inside the case rather than consumers paying separately for both activation and an external mod
"

David Brabham, consumer PC category manager at HP, said: "This trial of HP PCs will test out the marketplace and determine whether there is a significant consumer demand for PCs with a built-in broadband modem. We expect the model to be a popular choice.

This partnership with BT Openworld gives our customers the opportunity of an enhanced internet experience with a recognised provider. The trial positions HP at the forefront of providing technology-driven solutions which maximise customer enjoyment and experience and is consistent with the positioning of HP consumer products.
"

This deal follows on from BT Openworld's recent announcement that it has made it cheaper for people to go online with broadband, with free activation and lower prices for ADSL modems and microfilters. Full details are available at http://www.btopenworld.com/broadband
