UK charity Age Concern has announced the
Silver Surfers Festival, which forms part of a wider campaign aimed at getting older people online by 2005:
The Silver Surfer Festival, which will run from 12 May to 6 June 2003 at local Age Concern venues, will offer older people the opportunity to try the internet at guided training sessions.
During the festival, at least 2,000 people will receive computers and at some venues there will be demonstrations of web cams, scanners and digital cameras.
As well as showing silver surfers how to use email as a form of communication, other themes will include lifestyle and leisure, local services and online discussions and chat sites. The
Web-User item reports that only 17% of those aged 65 and over have used the Internet, the campaign hopes to improve that figure.
