Thanks to Jim for pointing out that The Herald newspaper has reported on yesterdays launch of Scotland's first community broadband wireless project.
The project itself went live in the historic town of Cromarty on the north-east tip of the Black Isle:
With a population of about 800, the former royal burgh would not have provided the normal customer base required commercially by BT to connect it to broadband by way of copper telephone cables or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL).
However, in January Highlands and Islands Enterprise launched a multi-million- pound programme to connect 250 smaller communities across the north and west using wireless technology, at a cost of up to £50,000 each.
Work is already under way in Newtonmore, Westray and Papa Westray in Orkney, Achiltibuie, Acharacle and Tobermory.
Apparently a further 12 communities are now in line for connection.
