The latest global statistics for the xDSL hardware market has shown record growth in the third quarter of 2003:
Sales were fuelled by aggressive deployments in China and migration to faster platforms in Japan, according to Gartner Dataquest.
The analyst firm found that worldwide DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM) port shipments reached 12.4 million units, a 182% increase from the same period a year ago and a 32% rise quarter over quarter.
DSLAM port shipments to Europe and the Middle East declined in the traditionally slower third quarter. Worldwide customer premises equipment shipments increased 135.5% year over year, and 25.8% quarter over quarter, to 10.2 million units in the third quarter of 2003.The
VNUNet item reports that Alcatel was the DSLAM market leader in the third quarter, holding 34.4% of shipments.
