BTO ADSL Cuts Estate Agent Costs

The 'Chancellors Estate Agents' group has successfully saved itself a fair amount of money after installing BTOpenworlds Business 500PLUS broadband ADSL product:
CHANCELLORS ESTATE AGENTS HOMES IN ON THE INTERNET
The Chancellors Group of Estate Agents Ltd will reduce its telecommunications bill by 20 per cent next year in 35 of its 54 branches. In addition, the company expects to make further savings over the next three years.
The independent estate agency group, which trades as Chancellors, Anscombe & Ringland and Russell Baldwin & Bright, has implemented BT Openworld's Business 500PLUS, Internet Business Pack and Teleworker products, to save money and increase productivity.
The solutions have replaced the estate agent's old ISDN line with a broadband connected Virtual Private Network (VPN). As well as providing a secure high-speed internet connection, all 35 ADSL-enabled branches can now access the company HQ's database simultaneously over a secure and encrypted connection.
In addition, the VPN means that staff can access the company's networks from home or from any office, opening up the corporate network without compromising security.
The implementation has also enabled the company to improve customer service. Now, agents are able to send and receive attachments faster and more efficiently, as documents can be up and downloaded in real-time.
Building on the success of this scheme, Chancellors will soon add more remote workers and branches to the solution and upgrade the VPN at its HQ to 'high-availability' by adding a second fail-over VPN concentrator.
Nick Steele, technical support manager at The Chancellors Group of Estate Agents said: "Given the option to greatly improve internet access in the branches, add in the benefits of VPN connectivity, and at the same time reduce the overall monthly telecommunications costs, the decision to implement this solution was an easy one to make."
Neville Manuel, vice-president of value-added services at BT Openworld, said: "Chancellors Estate Agents is a great example of using technology to enable an agile and productive workforce. High-speed internet access and teleworking has allowed the company to become more effective and better able to focus on its core activities, which is crucial to success in the current economic climate."
