BTOpenworld has issued a general security warning regarding another critical security exploit in several of Microsoft's operating systems:
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a positive internet experience for our customers, we do our utmost to protect them from online attack. Recently, we have been informed that there may have been an attack affecting some versions of Microsoft® Windows®.
We want to help all our customers minimise the risk of intrusion, so we've outlined below a few simple steps you can take in order to protect your system and keep your PC safe.
The first step is identifying which Windows® products could be affected. Instructions are available from Microsoft to help you determine which version of Windows you are running.
The affected products are:
Windows NT® 4.0
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows Server(tm) 2003
Products not affected:
Windows Millennium (Windows Me)
Note: Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), and Windows 95 are also unaffected by this issue. However, Microsoft no longer supports these products, so users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to later versions.
The next step is to obtain the update to help you protect your computer. To do this, simply go to Windows Update, scan for updates, and then review and install any critical updates
