BT Touts Broadband Home Networking

Posted: 28th Oct, 2003 By: MarkJ
BT has issued a new press release aimed at touting the benefits of using their home networking technology, over the Christmas period, to share a single broadband connection:

FOR PEACE AND GOODWILL IN THE HOME HAVE A WI-FI CHRISTMAS

With families spending time together at home over Christmas, what better way to extend the season of goodwill than by enabling all members of the household to share a single broadband connection to have access to the internet at the same time? With BT Home Network 1200, home harmony can be maintained by putting an end to family rows over whose turn it is to go online first. As it only requires a single broadband connection, there are no extra monthly charges and no additional wiring.

The BT Home Network is simple to install, as the only decision you have to make is whether to connect to the existing telephone lines around the home or to go wireless. Laptops can be liberated from the telephone sockets so Mum can look up Delia online from the kitchen table, Dad can download holiday deals from the sofa whilst the children can download music and enjoy hours of unlimited gameplay by connecting their Microsoft X Box or Sony's PS2.

Before the turkey arrives on the dining table and the first cracker is pulled, even the most techno–phobic person will be able to install it using the new plug and play networking solution. This year, the only tangled wires you will have to contend with are the fairy lights around the Christmas Tree.

When all your family's computers are connected through the BT Home Network 1200 it is possible to share files, printers, videos and music libraries as well as play games against other PC's elsewhere in the house. It also has the added benefit of parental control filters, giving Mums and Dads peace of mind knowing that they have the ability to control how and when their children surf the net.

Then if the festive fun gets too much and you require a few quiet moments of retreat in the garden shed, the network has a range of up to 250 metres in ideal conditions therefore allowing you the freedom to escape for some peace and quiet during the festive season.

The BT Home Network 1200 now costs £159.99 to connect two Computers in the same room. To upgrade to wireless a BT Home Network 1200 Wireless card costs £39.99. Just remember that each PC requiring wireless connectivity will need a wireless local area network (LAN) adapter.
