AOL UK has managed to further expand its existing Football related content to include a series of new broadcast deals. These should bring further football highlights to the ISPs broadband subscribers:
The ISP struck accords with broadcasters BSkyB, Granada, and sports Web site production firm Premium TV to broadcast delayed match highlights, plus player and manager interviews for 85 of Britain's 92 professional clubs, including top Premier League teams Manchester United and Arsenal.
"
We were looking for what we knew would be key content to drive broadband subscriptions, and we knew we had to get football this year," an AOL UK spokesman said.
Britain's broadband services market has become brutally competitive in the past year with a dramatic drop in connection prices, making it one of Europe's fastest-growing markets for high-speed Internet access.
Broadband providers such as AOL, BT Group and
Freeserve have begun discounting installations and investing heavily in marketing to stoke consumer uptake.
The firms have recently been adding sports highlights, music videos, extended movie trailers and short films to draw in new subscribers to the more expensive services.
It's believed that AOL UK has managed to acquire some 150,000 new broadband customers in the space of just one year.
